jason miller

Jason R. Miller, O.D., M.B.A.

Dr. Jason R. Miller is a 1995 graduate of Ohio Dominican College where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He continued his studies at The Ohio State University where he earned a Doctorate of Optometry in 1999. In 2006, he completed his Masters in Business Administration. Dr. Miller began practicing with Dr. Kuhlmann at EyeCare Professionals of Powell in June, 1999 upon graduation and licensure.

Dr. Miller is a faculty member at Ohio State University and has instructed students in the Binocular Vision and Pediatrics Clinic. He has done extensive work in the area of children’s vision. Research has indicated 70 to 80 percent of children in learning disabled classes have an undetected vision problem. 1 in every 20 children suffers from Amblyopia (“Lazy Eye”), including Dr. Miller’s son whose condition he detected at 22 months. The earlier any vision concerns are detected, the better the prognosis can be.

Dr. Miller proudly volunteers his time for many school vision screenings and the “Realeyes” initiative. For his dedication, he recently received the 2004 Community Service Award for the Olentangy School Board. He also examines and provides eyeglasses to needy individuals through the American Optometric Association’s Vision USA Program, and VSP’s Sight for Students. He is currently the Central Ohio Zone governor in the Ohio Optometric Association and the Central Ohio InfantSEE coordinator. He is also an active member of the American Optometric Association, the Olentangy Rotary Club, Powell Chamber of Commerce, and the Powell United Methodist Church.

Dr. Miller and his wife, Melanie, reside in Powell with their three children; Jacob, Joshua, and Megan.


San San Cooley

San-San L. Cooley, O.D., M.S.

Dr. San-San L. Cooley received her undergraduate and graduate education at the University of Minnesota, earning her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees. She continued on to obtain her Doctorate of Optometry, graduating magna cum laude from The Ohio State University, College of Optometry.

She was selected to become part of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society and also received the Patient Care Excellence Award and the William Feinbloom Low Vision Award. Following graduation, Dr. Cooley completed a residency focusing on the management and treatment of ocular disease at the Cincinnati Eye Institute.

Dr. Cooley is a current faculty member at The Ohio State University, College of Optometry. As Clinical Assistant Professor and attending doctor, she supervises interns and examines patients in Primary Vision Clinic, Ocular Disease Clinic, Vision Rehabilitation Clinic, and at the Student Health Center. Dr. Cooley is also an instructor for clinical skills labs at the OSU College of Optometry.

Dr. Cooley is an active member of the Ohio Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association, and the American Academy of Optometry. She is involved in the community as a member of LifePoint Church, and is a presenter of “Realeyes,” an education program that teaches children and their parents about eye health and safety. She has volunteered on an optometric service mission with Student Volunteers for Optometric Service to Humanity (SVOSH), providing eye care to underserved populations in Ecuador.

Dr. Cooley is certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. She practices full scope optometry and sees patients of all ages providing vision and ocular health examinations, precription eyeglasses and contact lenses, diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases, emergency eye care, and referral services for various ocular conditions.


Marcia Hoepf, O.D.

Marcia Hoepf received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from The Ohio State University in 2005 and graduated with honors from The New England College of Optometry in 2010. Upon completion of her optometry degree, she received an additional year of training as a resident for the Boston Veteran’s Association. Her residency focused on the treatment and management of ocular disease and included additional work with large hospitals throughout the Boston area.

Dr. Hoepf has unique training in the area of glaucoma which includes practicing for 2 years alongside a very busy and well known glaucoma surgeon in Columbus. She treats a wide range of ocular diseases and continues to co-manage with many cataract, glaucoma, retinal and refractive surgeons in the area. Dr. Hoepf also has a special interest in the pediatric population. She has experience working with children of all ages in the treatment of common refractive and binocular disorders.

Dr. Hoepf has been a faculty member at the New England College of Optometry where she supervised externs and residents in a multidisciplinary community health center. She continues to teach student externs in the private practice setting here in Ohio. She has lectured locally and nationally for continuing education conferences and has published in various academic journals. Dr. Hoepf has received grants from the National Institute of Health (NIH) to perform ocular laboratory research with animals. She also has a commitment to serving underprivileged populations and traveled on a mission trip to Nicaragua in 2008 where she provided eye care to numerous villages throughout the country. She has been an active member of the American Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry.

Dr. Hoepf resides in Worthington with her husband, Jeff, and has two little boys; Samuel and Everett. She enjoys running, hiking, camping, skiing, and traveling.


Tamara M. Kuhlmann, O.D., M.S.

Dr. Tamara M. Kuhlmann earned both her Doctorate of Optometry and Master of Science in Physiological Optics from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1983. While in school, Dr. Kuhlmann specialized in specialty contact lens studies and disease evaluation and treatment. Dr. Kuhlmann is an associate professor at The Ohio State University.

She has instructed students in clinical skills at the university, and at both the Veteran’s Administration Outpatient Clinic in Columbus, and the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Chillicothe, Ohio. She continues to teach student externs at her own office at EyeCare Professionals of Powell.

Dr. Kuhlmann was the first eye doctor in Powell, Establishing EyeCare Professionals of Powell (previously Powell Eye Care) in 1987. She has been in practice with several Columbus eye surgeons, and has been consulting and co managing laser vision correction and cataract surgery since 1992. Dr. Kuhlmann was the first eye specialist in the area to be certified in the new non-surgical procedure of Corneal Refractive Therapy. This exciting new procedure is completely safe and reversible for all ages and may be helpful in arresting myopic progression in children. It can even improve a less than satisfactory laser surgical outcome.

Dr. Kuhlmann is pleased to actively volunteer her time and expertise to the community through Community Health Fairs, school screenings, Prevent Blindness, “Realeyes” education for elementary school students, VSP’s Sight for Students, and the AOA Vision USA Program. She is a Past President of the Olentangy Rotary Club, and a Key Optometrist for the Ohio Optometric Association. She is currently the VSP respresentative for Ohio. Dr. Kuhlmann is also an active member of The American Optometric Association, the Powell Chamber of Commerce, and Lord of Life Lutheran Church. Dr. Kuhlmann has received a lifetime achievement award from “Who’s Who in America,” and was recognized as one of “America’s Top Optometrists.” Dr. Kuhlmann and her husband, David, reside in Powell and have two daughters, Elise and Mallory.


Dr. Michelle Miller, O.D.

Dr. Michelle Miller attended The Ohio State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology graduating magna cum laude in 2012. In 2016, she graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University College of Optometry, obtaining her Doctorate of Optometry degree. While a student, she was a member and officer for the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society. Additionally, she was awarded the David R. Mutti Endowed Fund Scholarship for being an inspiration to others in the field of Optometry.

Dr. Miller practices full scope optometry with a special interest in binocular vision and pediatrics. She loves the diverse opportunities that optometry provides in private practice. Dr. Miller is an active member of the Ohio Optometric Association which includes volunteering her time educating nearly 1000 students in the past school year in the central Ohio area through the Realeyes program.

Dr. Miller resides in the Short North with Dr. Stephen Denny and their son Calvin. She attends Rock City Church there in the Short North. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, baking, and spending time with her family.

Taylor D. McGann, O.D.

Dr. Taylor D. McGann obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, graduating magna cum laude, from The Ohio State University in 2013. Dr. McGann earned her Doctor of Optometry degree, graduating magna cum laude, from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 2017. She was awarded the Binocular Vision and Pediatrics Clinical Excellence Award, Vision Service Plan and American Optometric Foundation Practice Excellence Award, and Ocular Instruments Award of Excellence in the study of Ocular Disease.

While in school, Dr. McGann was a selected member of the scholastic honors society, Beta Sigma Kappa, and served as treasurer of Student Council. Additionally, she participated in service trips to Guatemala and Peru in order to provide eye care to under served populations as a member of the non-profit organization, SVOSH.

Dr. McGann provides comprehensive family eye care, contact lens fittings and evaluations, and ocular disease management, with special interests in binocular vision, pediatrics, vision therapy, and traumatic brain injury ocular rehabilitation. Dr. McGann is a member of the Ohio Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, and volunteers as a “Realeyes” presenter to educate children and parents about their ocular health.

In addition to patient care at Eye Care Professionals, she is the current Pediatric Optometry/Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation Resident at the Ohio State University College of Optometry. She is also a faculty member at The Ohio State University College of Optometry, and as an Instructor of Clinical Practice, she teaches in the Primary Vision Care, Binocular Vision and Pediatrics Services, and Vision Therapy clinics.



Jason Smith, Office Manager and Study Coordinator

Jason joined our team in 2014 as our Office Manager and Study Coordinator. Jason has over 14 years experience in the optical field. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Business in Business Management in 2004. He is the proud father of Wyatt and husband to Abigail. He and his family reside in the Lewis Center area.


Julie H. LDO, CPO

Julie has been in the optical industry since 1997. She is very knowledgeable in all aspects of the optical field. She received her Ohio Optical Dispensers license in 2001. She also achieved her Certified Paraoptometric Certification in 2008. She has been with the company over 9 years and is the eyewear gallery team leader.

Nicole Wise

Nicole has been in the optical field since June 2015. She became a Certified Paraoptometric in August of 2016 and is preparing for her Certified Paraoptometric Assistant Certification. Nicole prepares patients prior to their eye care examinations, scribes for the doctors and handles patient prior authorizations. She is new to our study team and helps out in our contact lens department. Nicole lives in Old Worthington with her partner Brian where they enjoy their big dog, Buddy, golfing and gardening.

Susan Bodette, CPO

Susan has been a member of our staff since 2014. She has earned a B.S. from Indiana University and M.S. from I.P. F. W. Susan has been married to her husband, Mike, for twenty-four years and they have three children and a cat. Susan volunteers for Boy Scouts, Youth Group, Olentangy Schools, Delaware County Humane Society, and as a 4-H Advisor.


Gina Whaley

Gina Whaley is the newest technician in the Eye Care Professionals family. Gina assists patients prior to their comprehensive examinations in all areas of pretesting such as auto refraction and visual fields testing She also assists with glaucoma testing for those patients being monitored in that area. Gina is a graduate of The Ohio State University and enjoys spending time with her 3 children as well as biking, reading and watching sports.


Kiersten Sybert, CPO

Kiersten has been a part of EyeCare Professionals since the fall of 2015. Kiersten is an Ophthalmic Technician, Assistant Research Coordinator and also handles the contact lens department. Kiersten graduated from The Ohio State University. Outside of work Kiersten enjoys spending time with family, friends and watching The Ohio State Buckeyes.


Carla Bowersox

Carla will greet you at the front desk with a smile. Carla joined our office in 2012 with over 11 years of experience. Carla is originally from the Ashland area. Carla is married to Dan and resides in the Powell area. Carla has two children and four grandchildren.


Wendy M.

Wendy joined our office in 2015. Wendy will greet you at the front desk and the optical department. Wendy has over 4 years experience in the optical field. Wendy studied Nursing at Clark State. Wendy and her family reside in the Dublin area.

Jennifer H., LDO

Jennifer joined our optical department in 2016 as one of our licensed Opticians. She has been in the optical field since 1997 and received her license in 2001. Her and her husband Bryan along with their daughter Jocelyn and two dogs reside in the Lewis Center area. On weekends they enjoy watching the Buckeyes play football and spending time with family.
